Our Services

Do you offer Occupational Therapy for Autistic adults?

We do not offer occupational therapy in the traditional model. Instead we offer consulting services in which we teach strategies that you can apply to different areas of challenge in your life.

Do you offer mental health therapy for Autistic adults?

Yes! We offer individual therapy for neurodivergent individuals, as well as relationship & family therapy for neurodiverse couples & families. Our therapists take a neurodivergent-affirming approach and are a good fit for those who have struggled to feel understood and validated.

Are you an Autistic adult who lives on your own but feel like your life is in chaos?

We can help you find the strategies that work best for you to create order and peace in your home and workplace. One essential component to make order out of chaos is executive functioning skills and strategies.

Executive Function is the mental ability to perform the skills required for goal-directed actions.

Actions such as:

  • Studying for a test

  • Managing your time in the morning to make it to class

  • Adjusting your plan when your boss changes a project

  • Managing deadlines

  • Organizing personal items

  • Keeping your cool when under stress

    Skills included in Executive Function:

  • Prioritizing tasks

  • Time management

  • Flexible thinking

  • Task initiation

  • Organization

  • Self-control

Are you a teen transitioning to adulthood with Autism? Are you planning to attend college or get a job and move out after graduation?

If so, you’ll want to make the transition easier on yourself by developing independent living skills now.

If you currently rely on cues or reminders from someone when performing day to day tasks, you are not yet fully independent. These types of supports provided by parents or others should be removed prior to a major transition.

We can help you find the right self-reminder strategies that work best for you.  See our FREE guide about this topic on our resources page

Independent Living Skills Needed Prior to Attending College on Campus:

  • Perform basic hygiene and grooming tasks without cues from others.

  • Set and wake to an alarm.

  • Put together a simple breakfast or meal.

  • Change sheets on a bed.

  • Do laundry.

  • Organize school materials and personal items.

  • Maintain a calendar to keep track of due dates and events.

  • Identify reasonable accommodations for success on campus and in the classroom.

  • Be able to communicate and self-advocate for those accommodations in a way that will be well-received.

When transitioning to adulthood with Autism, learning these 3 major skill areas are essential:

Accommodations, self-advocacy, goal setting.

The challenges of being neurodivergent in a neurotypical setting should not stop you from fulfilling your potential.  We can help.  We teach the skills to identify accommodations that work for you, so that you can do your best work.

Accommodation:

Changing aspects of the environment to make a task easier to perform, make an environment more welcoming and less distracting/abrasive for your specific sensory needs.  Examples could be fidgeting quietly to improve focus during class, or altering lighting so that it’s less caustic.

One challenge in identifying successful accommodations is finding solutions that work for you  AND are appropriate for the setting. A college or workplace must also find the accommodation to be reasonable (relatively simple and not too costly to put into practice.)

But if you know what you need and still aren’t sure how to communicate it to others, it only gets you so far.  You need to develop your self-advocacy skills as well.

Self-Advocacy:

The act of communicating your own needs, desires, or any other topic in pursuit of your own interest (Such as clearly explaining your strengths and why you’re a good fit for the job).

Self-advocacy is essential  for success in college, employment, and even in relationships.

Learning self-advocacy skills is necessary to be able to put into practice those accommodations that help you be at your best!

Goal-Setting:

Identifying something that you want to be able to achieve in the near or distant future, then identifying the specific steps to get there.

If you are a teen who is having trouble identifying goals for your future, we can help with that too.  The concrete thinking style typical of those on the spectrum can sometimes make long-term goal-setting challenging.

We help identify strategies to explore future careers in a more concrete way, as well as strategies for goal-setting to get started on your chosen path.  Special interests are a great place to start for exploration of careers that are connected to your passion!

Neurodiversity Training for Companies or Institutions

AATC also supports companies and educational institutions to build an improved understanding of the Autistic adult experience.

We help improve understanding of how autistic talents can benefit your organization, as well as offer simple strategies to help neurodivergent individuals thrive there. If recruiting and retaining individuals with unique talents and independent thinking skills is your aim, we are here for you.
